Allow me to thank you, however late it may be, for the message you sent last May through my official e-mail address at the World Wide Web.

I deeply appreciate your expression of support and hope you will remain united with your fellow Filipinos as we continue to draw from the spirit of EDSA the inspiration and vision in tackling the business of national development.

Those of us who staked our lives and our futures at EDSA for the cause of freedom and democracy can never abandon its meaning or ever forget what EDSA stands for. This long-standing and unwavering adherence to freedom and democracy should allay any fears of my ever declaring martial law during my watch. I believe that I have invested too much of my public career -- a total of 49 years -- in the defense of freedom and democratic ideals to ever allow myself to be subverted by partisan or personal interests -- whether mine or anyone else's.

In the same way that unity and nationalistic fervor carried the day for us ten years ago, let us remain united and proud Filipinos as we strive towards our new dream of a better, peaceful and progressive Philippines.
